Empowering Students to Research and Innovate New Technologies in Medicine
Medical Innovation Society (MIS) is a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers underfunded student entrepreneurs to conduct research and develop innovative technologies in the medical field. By integrating research, entrepreneurship, and technology, MIS helps students create groundbreaking solutions to healthcare challenges. Through our programs, students also develop essential skills such as communication, collaboration, responsibility, problem-solving, and productivity.
Since its inception, MIS has expanded to 8 regional chapters, engaging over 95 members. We have designed and led 12 workshops with an average of 38 attendees per session. We have also established partnerships with 4 local hospitals including Children's National Hospital, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Reston Hospital, and Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, allowing students to engage in research and shadowing opportunities. On top of connections with top hospitals in the area, we have also developed relationships with leading research universities, including Harvard Medical School, Georgetown, UC Berkeley, George Washington, and more, lending to greater opportunities for research for MIS members. The organization is currently managing 15 research projects, with 5 of them submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to research, MIS provides opportunities for students to certify as Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) volunteers. Furthermore, we have fundraised ~$7,000 through grants, fundraisers, and donations, which support our continued growth, student innovations, and the development of our programs.
As members of MIS, students gain valuable connections with peers, mentors, and professionals, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation in the medical field.
We strive to promote health education and support students by providing proper education and mentorship. Students will have the opportunity to explore different topics and fields within medicine through activities and workshops.
We encourage students to think out of the box while addressing health problems. By doing so, members create unique solutions to medical problems that they explore through research and entrepreneurship.
We teach students how to build their research skills and guide them toward finding ways to dive deeper into their interests.
